Mineral Resources Childcare

Situated adjacent to Mineral Resources HQ in Osborne Park, our team was engaged to design and project manage the delivery of the first Mineral Resources Childcare Facility, an initiative created to care for the children of MinRes employees.

An adaptive reuse of a 1980’s office building meant that we had to work around the quirks of the original office planning to satisfy the stringent childcare regulations that dictate the functional relationships between spaces. Retaining the super structure meant that the embodied carbon of the existing building was retained, highlighting our commitment to sustainability and the change of focus within the industry from operational to embodied carbon.

Design

Throughout the building, each space has been designed to foster child-led play, encouraging confidence, independence, and the development of social and motor skills. Outdoor play spaces on the upper floor were carved out of the existing floorplate and screened with multicoloured vertical battens along the façades.

Inside, large skylights flood the spaces with natural light, while a vibrant material palette of colour, texture and light is designed to inspire and engage young minds. Completed in 2024, the centre provides a rich developmental environment for the children of Mineral Resources staff with an innovative space that aligns with the company’s values of care and sustainability.
